Description

A study about the integration of proteomics and metabolomics data in therapeutic potential of tick saliva

Tick saliva consists of an intricate mixture of bioactive molecules such as proteins that regulate host responses safeguarding successful feeding. Proteomics as well as metabolomics of tick saliva are of significant role as they assist in accurately determining which proteins are found in different tick saliva as well as their quantity. However, only functions of some proteins (e.g., lipocalins and evasins) as well as their families were studied whereas for some families, knowledge still lacks. As such, it is of a significant pharmacological value for each protein’s function to be studied and have their therapeutic potential investigated further in more depth, since some of the tick species may have members with unknown therapeutic potential.
