I am the research leader in the Cardiometabolic Health Research Unit at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, where our primary mission revolves around delving into optimal strategies to prevent and mitigate cardiometabolic disorders. Concurrently, I serve as an Honorary Researcher within the Integrated Molecular Physiology Research Initiative laboratory at the University of the Witwatersrand. In this capacity, I engage in collaborative efforts with a diverse team of committed researchers, collectively exploring molecular facets relevant to cardiometabolic health. My research focuses on understanding the impact of chronic inflammation and anti-inflammatory drugs on cardiometabolic function in inflammatory diseases. In addition, my research endeavours extend to examining the impact of modifiable metabolic, cardiovascular, and lifestyle factors on cardiometabolic diseases across various ethnicities, employing animal models for comprehensive understanding. I am also actively engaged in multiple projects investigating the cardioprotective properties of various medicinal plants. This multi-faceted approach allows for a comprehensive understanding of potential interventions that could mitigate cardiometabolic risks.
