Abstract
Pain affects millions of people around the world. Different nonpharmacological and pharmacological interventions exist to manage it. Opioid analgesics are very effective in pain management and play an integral role in controlling moderate to severe pain. Oral opioid therapy allows for outpatient pain management and can reduce the need for in-hospital care. This article focuses on new oral opioid analgesics that are available on the South African market, or will be, and which may be relevant to pharmacy practice. © Medpharm.
