© 2016, Allergy Society of South Africa. All rights reserved. Atopic eczema (AE) is a chronic and often debilitating skin disorder with a high prevalence in young children. This article briefly describes predisposing factors that are currently known to contribute to the development of AE, as well as the clinical presentation of AE.
