Hybrid polymeric systems for potential applications in vaccine delivery

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Vaccines play a vital role in the prevention of several infectious diseases globally. A growing trend in vaccine formulations is the use of hybrid polymeric systems as carrier templates, delivery vehicles, and/or adjuvants. Hybrid polymeric systems are used in vaccine formulations to optimize numerous vaccine characteristics, including the route of administration, stability, strength of immune response, antigen release mechanisms, and duration. This chapter serves as an up-to-date summary of hybrid polymers used in vaccine formulations, including commonly used polymers, synthesis techniques, and carrier systems used in vaccine delivery. Also highlighted are examples of upcoming polymer hybrid vaccines and their respective implications.
